Have you seen The Murderburgers live yet? If ever there was a time to get overly excited about Scottish three chord punk, it’s now. This month there’s a quality line-up at Duke’s Corner on Saturday August 17th.
There’s several things I could have written about this evening. A piece on the Adam Stafford album has so far eluded me. Vic Galloway has been promoting his new book Songs in the key of Fife. Future Library continue to produce fascinating podcasts. Dundee’s Rusty Hip Collective are inviting all local musicians to submit their music for review. This also caught my eye: Now You Can 3D Print Any MP3 Into A Vinyl Record.
But no! I’m not going to write about any of those. Instead here’s 5 reasons why you should go see The Murderburgers in Dundee this month.
1. The Murderburgers’ next album comes out on Asian Man Records, the label responsible for Alkaline Trio’s early records. They know a thing or two about punk rock. If ever there was a time to get overly excited about Scottish three chord punk, it’s now.
2. Dundee doesn’t get as many rocktacular gigs as other cities but when it does they do tend to be fan-fucking-tastic. Expect the local scene to be out in force and well and truly up for this one.
3. Formerly known as The Doghouse, local venue Duke’s Corner has a PA and room acoustics that don’t sound like a drum kit being thrown down a well. You don’t have to know much about music to appreciate when a small venue does its job properly. Every gig I’ve been to there in the last year or so has sounded excellent. The Murderburgers will most likely sound great.
4. The whole night looks stellar with support from Robot Doctors and Tragical History Tour (Deeker from UNIFORMS). No excuse then for not getting along early to hear all the tunes.
5. If you still miss Woolworths Pick n Mix, chances are there will be a punk rock DIY distro merch table present for all your impromptu record buying. At least that’s what you usually see whenever Deeker / Make That A Take are in the building. They might even have something left over from their ‘fire sale‘.
And on that note, let’s cast your mind back to the first time you ever heard Basketcase by Green Day. Those were the days. Actually, those days were awful. But I liked the song. I still do.
