So EMO It Hurts. Bonehouse release “The Long Summer” LP

bonehouse-long-summer-LPFormer members of Archives & The Fall Of Boss Koala feature in Dundee indie/emo/punk band Bonehouse. Their new LP is available to order containing the band’s first two demos from 2011 and 2012. That Breaking Bad used a song with my favourite unintentionally emo song title of all time is a tenuous link to the genre at best.

With a sound somewhere between Braid and Sunny Day Real Estate, Dundee’s Bonehouse are not aiming to reinvent the wheel. Distant memory recalls reading a Facebook status update which asked their friends if anyone would be interested in them remastering and re-releasing their early demos on vinyl. Thumbs must have been pointed upwards in sufficient numbers that the plan got the go-ahead. Either that or they were planning to indulge themselves regardless.

From today you can pre-order the LP from Middle-Man Records.

Given what gets released on Deep Elm these days it’s hard to know constitutes emo-tinged indie/punk in 2013. The Dundee music scene has been home to such bands from Avast! to Spyamp, who wouldn’t sound out of place on a bill with likes of Everyone Everywhere or Texas is the Reason.

Bonehouse are less dischord-esque and more traditional in their approach if that’s the correct word. Thing is, no matter how much you don’t rate a band – this is about bands in general! – there’s always the chance they’ll come back and surprise you. You’re only ever 10 to 12 songs away from greatness. It’s not as if At The Drive-In were well known before Relationship of Command.

Personally I still think the best emo title of all time is, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.

Bonehouse have shown that they know their influences well. Their next release is the one that should point to them finding their own voice.

In the meantime, there’s always the demos.
